Canopy main entrance Grand National Hotel Luzern, 1999

067 Canopy Grand National Hotel

The palace hotel was built during the Belle Époque era on the lakeside promenade in Lucerne and opened in 1870. The solutions for canopies and mobile roofing on all sides of the Grand Hotel National obtained in a study commission led to the implementation of a minimal steel glass construction as a permanent installation above the main entrance on the east side. Its materialisation is based on the classic hotel entrances of the Belle Époque without evoking a historic reconstruction in its formal severity and reduction.
