Conversion Trans Europe Express Zürich, 1988

- Text
The TEE train was built by the Swiss industry in the 1960s and quickly grew to become a landmark of Swiss industrial design. A conversion became necessary in 1988 as the SBB had to meet Eurocity standards. This task called for a completely new identity for the train:
the design of the exterior appearance, a new interior architecture and the development of new seating and lighting were required. On the exterior, a continuous dark grey window band on a light grey background was applied. The windows as openings got the recognisable “speed stripe” framed on top and bottom by white stripes. Thus, the focus was not only placed on the speed, but also on the train as an independent object.
